Massive sensor crop in 60fps mode on the One R 1" Mod

Hi,

I bought the Insta360 One R with the 1" Mod as an action camera for some of the more extreme sports I do, such as downhill mountain biking and backcountry skiing. My biggest requirement for an action camera is the ability to record in 60fps, which I believe most extreme sports enthusiasts will agree with me is the standaard and has been for many years now. First 1080p/60fps and more recently 4K/60fps.

The issue
Now, after purchasing the Insta360 One R with the 1" Mod, I learn that this camera is unable to record in 60fps without severely cropping the sensor. This completelely defeats the purpose of the 1" Mod and means you only use a fraction of the sensor while recording in 4K 60fps. The 5.3K/30fps mode is very nice, but not what I bought this camera for. The loss of detail due to the crop of one thing, the lower field of view is a deal breaker when using the camera for point of view shots, such as with a chest mount.

If you're interested in seeing how bad the crop is, please check this video I made: https://youtu.be/xV9geG5neoU

The solution

Insta360, please ask your engineers to work on removing the sensor crop in the 4K 60fps mode. Give us a full sensor readout at 60fps that gets downsampled to 4K. If the Ambarella SoC inside the One R is incapable of that, then please update your website with a disclaimer that higher frame rates will crop the sensor. Maybe also stop calling it an action camera then and rename it a 'compact VLOG camera' or something.
