One RS sounds bad, filtered and lossy compression

Hello,

like many users, I find the One RS sound problematic. It is really not on par with the image quality.

I am currently running Firmware v1.4.81. No mention of sound improvement is listed with v2.0.2.

I was not satisfied with the sound from the build-in mics so I've made tests with a Sennheiser MKE-200 (with the One RS Mic Adapter).

There were no improvements with this mic. It still sounded heavily filtered and like a bad mp3 file or similar lossy format. Artifacts were very audible.

I then made a simple test by pluging a pink noise source directly into the mic adapter input. The results were exactly the same.

Here's the input signal (Pink Noise):

And here's the audio coming out of the recorded video:

We can clearly see 3 things here:

So the first thing is confirmed. AUDIO IS HEAVILY FILTERED. Whatever sound source is used, passive or active, the sound will be altered.

On top of that comes the lossy quality. It basically sounds like a bad 128 kbps mp3.

From what i can see reading the file information the codec used for audio is MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a), 48kHz, 32 bit, stereo. This shouldn't be a limitation to get a very clear sound. Not what we hear when recording with a One RS.

So what is happening here?

Can't developpers at Insta360 find a solution for this issue?
