overheating

Just got my camera. My first test was to see how long the battery would last with a long video. I got 26 minutes of video but the camera shut off because of overheating with 53% of battery charge remaining. A second test I got 24 minutes before shutting down. Is this standard? If so, not acceptable for my use. I do driving tours, not just short clips.
