Lenses and scratches

What are your lenses made of? I just lost my Vuze to scratches from just setting it down wrong on a table. I stupidly assumed the lens given convex shape would be scratch-resistant like an iPhone lens.

If yours are also fragile, have you thought of a silicone slip-on cover?
