Help, X2 connects but won't activate

HI Everyone. I received my one x2 yesterday but I cannot get it to work. It powers up, lets me scroll through the menus and settings but if I try to start recording, it says, "please install insta360 app and activate". I have the app on my phone (iphone xs max). I open the app and connect to the camera but when the window comes up with the promp "activate" it says activating but 20 seconds later it says "activation request timed out. Please try again later or contact customer service". The light on the camera is solid blue.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
